Joyce Thomas is the author of two previous poetry collections, Washing Birds (Main Street Rag, 2016) and Skins (Fithian Press, 2001), and one nonfiction work, Inside the Wolf's Belly: Aspects of The Fairy Tale (Sheffield Academic Press, 1989). Her poetry has appeared in various publications, including North American Review and JAMA, as well as the anthologies Orpheus and Company: Contemporary Poems on Greek Mythology (UP of New England); The Poets' Grimm: 20th Century Poems from Grimm Fairy Tales (Story Line Press); and Birchsong: Poetry Centered in Vermont (Blueline Press).

Born in Annapolis, Maryland, the poet has lived in Vermont since 1980, teaching at Castleton University with special interests in World, English, and Children's Literature. She was the second Vermont State College Faculty Fellow, and upon her retirement was granted Professor Emerita status. Dr. Thomas contentedly lives in Castleton with a large dog, a small dog, a black cat, an orange cat, and a verdant cottage garden.
