Rootstock Celebrates Black Philanthropy Month
Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), observed every August, is a global celebration and concerted campaign to elevate African-descent giving. Created by Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland and the Pan-African Women's Philanthropy Network (PAWPNet), BPM launched in 2011 to commemorate the United Nations Year and Decade of People of African Descent.
Rootstock is happy to partner with BPM to offer discounts and complimentary copies of the U.S. edition of Collecting Courage: Joy, Pain, Freedom, Love — Anti-Black Racism in the Charitable Sector, which we are releasing September 7th, to help celebrate and raise awareness of Black Philanthropy Month.
In a blog post in Generocity, nonprofit leader Vu Le writes: “I just finished Collecting Courage: Joy, Pain, Freedom, Love, a collection of essays and poetry by Black fundraisers, reflecting on their experiences in our sector. It highlights the many instances of racism that Black colleagues face in fundraising, as well as the white savior complex and other issues with our sector, but there’s also lots of strength and joy.
I highly recommend it, especially as August is Black Philanthropy Month, a good time for us to think about Black giving, support Black organizations and businesses, and elevate Black fundraisers’ experiences.”
Collecting Courage includes a Reader’s Guide of book group discussion questions to help deepen the work of equity and justice in the charitable sector. To receive a code for 20% off five or more copies, please email samantha@rootstockpublishing.com.
