A former librarian at Johns Hopkins University, Jill Coupe has an MFA in fiction from Warren Wilson College. Having grown up in Knoxville, Tennessee, she (like Gemma) has always loved the Southern Appalachians. She won the 2017 IPPY Gold Medal for Regional Fiction South for her novel True Stories at the Smoky View (She Writes Press, 2016) and the 2021 IPPY Silver Medal for Multicultural Fiction for Beginning with Cannonballs (She Writes Press, 2020).
