Medanales resident receives a gold medal for his nonfiction book

Montpelier, Vt. – In a virtual ceremony on June 3rd, author Edwin Hagenstein of Medanales received a gold medal in the 25th Annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, or “IPPY,” for his book The Language of Liberty: A Citizen’s Vocabulary, named the best reference book in the annual international competition.

According to the Jenkins Group and IndependentPublisher.com, this year’s contest drew over 4,500 entries, with 430 gold, silver and bronze medals given to independent authors and publishers from 46 U.S. states and seven Canadian provinces, with winners also coming from U.K. and Australia, plus New Zealand, Ireland, France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Jamaica, and Malawi.

“Our judges recognized The Language of Liberty as an extremely relevant and timely resource,” said Independent Publisher Awards Director Jim Barnes. “Today’s divisive political climate is fueled by rampant misinformation, so the more Americans learn the ‘language of liberty,’ the more powerful our democracy will be,” he said.

“I think the gold medal shows that my book is one that all readers can learn from and enjoy,” says author Ed Hagenstein.

The Language of Liberty provides definitions and background information on 101 political terms, from “democracy” to “filibuster” and beyond. Hagenstein describes it as “an owner’s manual for American government.” Published by Rootstock Publishing of Montpelier, Vermont in September 2020, it is available for purchase at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop, IndieBound, and other book retailers.
