‘It Was Her New York’ Named 2024 IAN Finalist
Rootstock is pleased to share that ‘It Was Her New York’ is a Finalist in the 2024 IAN Book of the Year Awards! The memoir of her mother by C.O. Moed was selected as a finalist in two categories: “LGBTQ+ Non-Fiction,” and “Women’s Non-Fiction.”
In this engaging collection of personal essays and full-color photographs, Moed tells true stories of caring for her mother Florence, a broke, Julliard-trained pianist who stumbles into dementia on the Lower East Side. This funny, poignant memoir is for anyone who has experienced the aging of a parent, the gentrification of a neighborhood, or the unexpected discovery of stifled love and hidden sexuality.
The Independent Author Network (IAN), an important resource for independent authors, judges books by experienced reviewers, authors, publishers, and editors.
“Deep love is here for a mother and for streets filled with the history of people on the move,” said Joan Nestle, cofounder of Lesbian Herstory Archives. “And a New York daughter’s moxie is here too in words, pictures, and humor, attempting to keep loss in the wings for just a little longer.”
