'A Peek Under the Hood' is an Awardwinner!
Congratulations to Michael Pevarnik, whose book has received several awards! A Peek Under the Hood: Heroin, Hope, and Operation Tune-Up earned second place, Bookfest Book Award, in True Crime.
“A Peek Under the Hood is a true crime investigative adventure that travels from the streets to the jungle in the quest to reclaim an inner-city neighborhood’s stolen quality of life,” Bookfest writes in its review. “In the mid-1990s, an altruistic DEA agent and his atypical informant, a noble soul who’d endured the injustices of war and forced labor camps in Vietnam, set out to make a difference in Worcester, Massachusetts, a textile manufacturing hub of the Industrial Revolution that had become known for its production of heroin, crack, and crime.”
A Peek Under the Hood was also a finalist in two categories from the American Writing Award: Narrative NonFiction and True Crime. It was a top ten finalist for a 2024 Bookshelf Award in nonfiction. In 2023, it was named first place winner in the True Crime category, a Firebird Book Award.
BookLife writes, “A Peek Under the Hood affords readers inside access to the ups and downs of hunting the most notorious drug traffickers, making this a riveting book.”
